2024 Member Health Goals

Written by Kevin Hyland | March 5, 2024

The second annual Member Health Goals report harnesses the power of data to help discover the differences between the type of benefits employees desire and the ones offered to them by employers hoping to produce successful health and financial outcomes. Over 96% of members who activated HealthJoy provided us with at least one health goal giving us more than 85,700 member responses to analyze.

Members share their personal health goals — such as improving mental health or reducing back pain — within the HealthJoy app during the onboarding experience. This data is then used to personalize the member’s in-app experience and provide them with care recommendations that help achieve healthier outcomes while containing costs. By listening to our members' goals and preferences, we provide them with a world-class experience built just for them.

This year’s report highlights key findings from our Health Goals survey including the fact that a significant number of members may be delaying care or skipping it entirely.

While 60% of surveyed members indicated they are managing an ongoing health condition, only 21.6% of members indicated they’d like help finding a specialist. Additionally, only a third of respondents indicated that they’re aiming to complete a physical — which can be key for preventative care, screenings and immunizations.

These discrepancies may signal that employees are delaying care when managing ongoing conditions. While this can save money in the short-term, it may lead to major healthcare spend down the road for employees and organizations alike.

Among other takeaways in the report, HealthJoy’s proprietary data signals that:

  • As Rx costs continue to rise, nearly half of respondents are paying for a prescription drug. Since Q4 of 2023, the HealthJoy Rx Team has helped save members an average of $146.42 per request on Ozempic, including savings as much as $512.50 on a single prescription.
  • Back and joint pain remain key challenges across many demographics, as 36.4% of respondents indicate having this issue.
  • 16.3% of respondents serve as the primary caregiver for someone with cancer, dementia or other chronic conditions.
