The Impact of Care Navigation on High Cost Claimants

21% Lower Spend for High Cost

Claimants Who Activate HealthJoy

Last year the U.S. spent $3.8 trillion (17.4% of GDP) on healthcare.  The majority of the country’s healthcare spend is concentrated in a small segment of the population.

In fact, according to The Peterson-KFF Health System Tracker, patients in the top 5% of spend make up the majority of total spend for many healthcare services including:

  • 77% of hospital inpatient expenses
  • Nearly half of all prescription drug spend

HealthJoy recently conducted a retrospective claims-based analysis to understand how care navigation can impact healthcare costs for patients accounting for the top 5% of total paid claims.

The study found that high cost claimants who activated HealthJoy experienced 21% lower spend than their non-activated peers.
